volcanic field

Multi-vent lava region

A volcanic field is an area containing multiple volcanic vents, cones, or craters formed by eruptions from a common magma source.

Unlike a single volcano with one main vent, volcanic fields scatter dozens or hundreds of small volcanic features across a region: The San Francisco volcanic field covers nearly 2,000 square miles.

Most individual vents erupt only once.
