sewers
City waste channels
Sewers are underground systems of pipes and channels that carry wastewater and storm runoff away from populated areas.
The word also refers to the pipes themselves: The city is replacing aging sewers.
Figuratively, a sewer suggests filth or moral degradation: a sewer of corruption.
Separately, a sewer is a person who sews.
