ice caves
Glacial hollow chambers
Ice caves are natural cavities formed within glaciers or ice formations, or rock caves that contain permanent ice year-round.
Glacier ice caves form when meltwater carves tunnels through the ice, creating chambers with striking blue walls as light filters through.
Rock ice caves stay cold enough to maintain ice even in summer due to air circulation patterns or elevation.
We hiked to see the ice caves before they melted.
These formations attract tourists but can be dangerous as they shift and collapse.
