Gray volcanic rock
Andesite is a gray volcanic rock, intermediate in composition between basite and rhyolite.
It forms much of the Andes mountains, from which it takes its name, and is common in volcanic arcs worldwide.
The eruption produced flows of andesite that buried the valley.
