landing pad
Aircraft arrival surface
A landing pad is a designated surface where aircraft touch down, especially helicopters or spacecraft.
The term extends to any prepared area for arrivals: The drone returned to its landing pad.
In science fiction, landing pads serve interplanetary vessels.
Figuratively, a landing pad can be a temporary base or staging area: She used her parents' house as a landing pad while apartment hunting.
