home base
Where runners score
Home base is a place of safety, security, or central operations from which one ventures out and returns.
In baseball, it's the final base a runner must touch to score, also called home plate.
The term extends to any headquarters or starting point: The café became our home base during the conference.
In children's games like tag, home base is a designated safe zone where players can't be tagged.
