lampblack

Collected combustion residue

Lampblack is a fine black pigment made from soot, traditionally collected from oil lamps or burning resinous materials.

It has been used for centuries in inks, paints, and dyes.

The term sometimes extends to any carbon-based black pigment: The artist mixed lampblack with linseed oil.
