interpolations
Filling data gaps
Interpolations is the plural of interpolation, which names the act of inserting something into an existing sequence or text.
In mathematics and computing, interpolation refers to estimating unknown values that fall between known data points: The software uses linear interpolation to smooth the curve between measurements.
In textual criticism, an interpolation is material added to a manuscript by someone other than the original author, often detected centuries later.
The word also applies to remarks interjected into a conversation or speech.
