downsampling

Reducing resolution deliberately

Downsampling is the process of reducing the amount of data in a dataset, signal, or image.

In audio and video processing, it means lowering the sample rate or resolution, which shrinks file size but may sacrifice quality.

In statistics and machine learning, downsampling refers to reducing the number of observations, often to balance an uneven dataset where one category vastly outnumbers another.

We downsampled the audio from 96kHz to 44.1kHz.
