piecewise

Domain-partitioned mathematical function

Piecewise describes something defined or applied in separate parts or intervals rather than as a single unified whole.

The term appears most often in mathematics, where a piecewise function uses different formulas for different portions of its domain: The absolute value function is piecewise linear.

More generally, piecewise can describe any process done section by section rather than all at once.
