upsampling

Enlarging digital data

Upsampling is the process of increasing the resolution or sample rate of digital data.

In audio, it means converting a recording to a higher sample rate than the original.

In image processing, it means enlarging an image by adding pixels, often through interpolation or AI enhancement: The software upsampled the old photo to 4K resolution.

The opposite is downsampling.
