impacts
Hits with consequences
Impacts are forceful collisions or striking effects—the literal impact of a car hitting a wall, or the figurative impact of a policy on communities.
The verb means to strike forcefully or to affect significantly: The recession impacted small businesses hardest.
Using impact as a verb for "affect" draws occasional criticism as jargon, but the usage is now standard.
