impacting

Having an effect

Impacting is the present participle of impact, used when something is having an effect or influence on something else: Climate change is impacting coastal communities.

Though impact as a verb has critics who prefer affect or influence, impacting is now standard in business, journalism, and everyday speech.

It can also mean physically striking: The meteor impacting the surface created a massive crater.
