impacted

Stuck tightly in

Impacted describes something wedged tightly in place.

An impacted tooth is blocked from emerging through the gum.

Impacted feces are lodged in the bowel.

The word has spread to mean affected or influenced: communities impacted by the flood.

This newer sense bothers some traditionalists, who prefer affected, but it's now standard in bureaucratic and journalistic writing.
