coconut shells
Palm fruit casings
Coconut shells are the hard, woody outer casings of coconuts, remaining after the fruit and liquid have been removed.
They're used as bowls, craft materials, fuel, and in making activated charcoal.
Halved shells clapped together produce a sound mimicking horse hooves—a low-budget sound effect famously parodied in *Monty Python and the Holy Grail*.
