pileup

Multi-vehicle wreck

A pileup is an accumulation of things heaped together, often chaotically.

The term most commonly describes a multi-vehicle collision where cars crash into each other in succession: A pileup on the freeway involved twelve vehicles.

More broadly, any backup or accumulation qualifies: a pileup of dirty dishes, a pileup of unanswered emails.
