hearing dog
Sound-alerting canine companion
A hearing dog is a dog trained to assist deaf or hard-of-hearing people by alerting them to sounds—doorbells, alarms, crying babies, approaching vehicles.
The dog typically makes physical contact and leads the person to the sound source.
Her hearing dog nudged her awake when the smoke alarm went off.
