nudge

Soft side poke

A nudge is a gentle push, typically with the elbow, to get someone's attention or signal something: She gave him a nudge when it was time to leave.

To nudge is to push gently or to encourage someone toward action: I nudged him to apply for the job.

A nudge can also be a person who persistently pesters—from Yiddish, where it rhymes with "could" rather than "judge."
