therapy animal

Emotional support pet

A therapy animal is an animal—typically a dog—trained to provide comfort and emotional support in institutional settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, schools, or disaster sites.

Unlike service animals, which assist specific individuals with disabilities, therapy animals offer general comfort to many people and don't have the same legal access rights.
