hearer
One who listens
A hearer is someone who hears—a person receiving spoken words or sounds.
The term appears most often in contexts distinguishing the hearer from the speaker: The speaker's intent may differ from what the hearer understands.
In religious contexts, hearers are those who listen to preaching or scripture: Be doers of the word, not hearers only.
