gristmill
Wheat-processing building
A gristmill is a mill for grinding grain into flour or meal.
Before industrial milling, gristmills were essential community infrastructure—farmers brought wheat, corn, or other grains to be ground, typically paying the miller with a portion of the flour.
Most were powered by water wheels: The old gristmill stood where the creek drops thirty feet.
