gaskets

Rings preventing leaks

Gaskets are seals placed between two surfaces to prevent leakage of fluids or gases.

They fill gaps and irregularities where components join: Replace the head gasket before the engine overheats.

Made of rubber, cork, metal, or composite materials, gaskets compress when parts are tightened together.

To blow a gasket is to lose one's temper explosively.
