Natural cork is cork harvested from the bark of cork oak trees, as opposed to synthetic or composite alternatives.
The term appears most often in discussions of wine bottle stoppers, where natural cork is prized for allowing controlled oxygen exchange during aging: The winemaker insists on natural cork for all his reserve bottles.
It also distinguishes traditional cork products—flooring, insulation, bulletin boards—from manufactured substitutes.
