rubber trees
Plantation sap producers
Rubber trees are trees that produce latex, the milky sap used to make natural rubber.
The most commercially important is *Hevea brasiliensis*, native to the Amazon but now cultivated extensively in Southeast Asia.
Workers harvest latex by cutting grooves in the bark and collecting the sap that drips out.
The plantation's rubber trees were tapped daily at dawn.
