natural rubber
Elastic plant polymer
Natural rubber is an elastic material derived from the milky latex of rubber trees, primarily *Hevea brasiliensis*.
Distinguished from synthetic rubber, which is petroleum-based, natural rubber has superior elasticity and resilience for certain applications: natural rubber tires, natural rubber gloves.
The material dominated until World War II spurred synthetic alternatives.
