leaks

Drips through cracks

Leaks are unwanted escapes of liquid, gas, or information through gaps or breaches.

A pipe leaks water; a tire leaks air; a source leaks classified documents to reporters.

The noun names both the escape and the opening that allows it: We found the leak in the roof.

To spring a leak is to develop one suddenly.

A leak can also mean urination: I need to take a leak.
