fiend

Wicked one obsessed

A fiend is an evil spirit or demon, and by extension, any wicked or cruel person.

The word now appears most often in compounds describing someone obsessively devoted to something: a health fiend, a fresh-air fiend, a crossword fiend.

These uses retain a hint of the demonic—suggesting intensity bordering on possession.
