monster
Child's closet fear
A monster is a terrifying and threatening creature, often legendary or imaginary.
Other meanings that arise from this are someone badly behaved (their children are monsters), something extremely large (monster truck), and a whimsical cartoon or comic character (Cookie Monster).
Someone who is a monster in a particular field is very prominent or dominates it: The master chef was a monster in the kitchen.
If you create a monster, you inadvertently bring about a situation that is difficult or unmanageable.
