maniac
Utterly unhinged individual
A maniac is a person who behaves wildly or dangerously, especially one gripped by violent madness.
The word now appears most often in casual exaggeration: He drives like a maniac, She's a maniac about keeping the house clean.
In these uses, maniac suggests excessive intensity rather than actual insanity.
