Baphomet

Goat-headed occult figure

Baphomet is a figure associated with occultism and Satanism, typically depicted as a goat-headed humanoid with wings, female breasts, and a torch between its horns.

The name emerged during the medieval trials of the Knights Templar, who were accused of worshiping such an idol.

The modern image was popularized by 19th-century occultist Éliphas Lévi, who portrayed Baphomet as a symbol of equilibrium between opposing forces.

Today the figure appears in heavy metal iconography and as a symbol of the Satanic Temple: The statue of Baphomet sparked controversy at the state capitol.
