succubus
Sleep-visiting temptress
A succubus is a female demon believed to visit men in their sleep and seduce them sexually.
The medieval legend served as an explanation for erotic dreams and nocturnal emissions.
In modern usage, succubus appears in fantasy fiction, video games, and as a metaphor for a dangerously seductive woman who drains men of vitality: She was a succubus, leaving a trail of ruined men behind her.
The male counterpart is an incubus.
