fibulas

Outer leg bones

Fibulas is the plural of fibula, the slender bone in the lower leg that runs alongside the larger tibia.

In anatomy, these bones provide attachment points for muscles but bear relatively little weight compared to their companion bones.

The term also applies to ancient brooches or clasps resembling safety pins, used to fasten garments in Greek and Roman times.

The archaeologist cataloged several bronze fibulas from the burial site.
