emesis

Forceful gastric expulsion

Emesis is the medical term for vomiting—the forceful expulsion of stomach contents through the mouth.

The word appears in clinical contexts and in compound terms: hyperemesis (excessive vomiting), antiemetic (a drug that prevents nausea).

Outside medicine, vomit and throwing up are the usual terms.
