retching
Stomach's false alarm
Retching is the convulsive motion of trying to vomit—the heaving, gagging spasms that may or may not produce anything.
Someone retching might be genuinely sick or reacting to something disgusting: The smell had him retching over the toilet.
Retching can be dry, with no result, or can precede actual vomiting.
