gagging
Throat spasm reflex
Gagging is the reflexive throat spasm that precedes vomiting, or the choking sensation when something triggers that reflex: The smell had me gagging.
To be gagging for something (British slang) is to want it desperately: I'm gagging for a cup of tea.
Gagging also refers to silencing someone, from the noun gag meaning a device or order that prevents speech: a gagging order from the court.
