coeducation
Both sexes learning
Coeducation is the practice of educating male and female students together in the same institution, as opposed to single-sex schooling.
The term emerged in the nineteenth century as schools and universities began admitting both sexes, a practice that was controversial at the time but is now standard in most countries.
A coeducational school or university may be called coed for short, and the students themselves were once called coeds, though that term now sounds dated.
