Unenlightenment is the state of remaining ignorant or uninformed, particularly about matters considered important for understanding oneself or the world.
It can describe a willful rejection of knowledge or reason: His unenlightenment on climate science was almost a point of pride.
The word often carries ironic weight, suggesting someone has actively resisted available wisdom rather than simply lacking exposure to it.
