major
Student's study focus
Major has two main jobs as an adjective: one conveys importance or something on a large scale (major renovation), and the other complements minor.
The noun major designates a number of things, most often a high military rank, and an area of concentration at an American university or a student who has declared such an area (chemistry major).
To major in a subject is to make it your main field of study.
In music, major denotes the most common scale that melodies are based on (C major).
