drydocks

Ship repair basins

Drydocks are structures for building or repairing ships out of water.

A drydock is a basin that can be flooded to float a vessel in, then drained to expose the hull for work below the waterline.

As a verb, to drydock a ship is to place it in such a facility: The carrier was drydocked for maintenance.
