floating docks
Rise-and-fall moorings
Floating docks are platforms that rise and fall with the water level, used for mooring boats or as waterfront walkways.
Unlike fixed docks supported by pilings, they rest on buoyant materials—typically foam-filled pontoons or air-filled drums—and adjust automatically to tides and changing water levels: The marina added floating docks to accommodate larger vessels.
In shipbuilding, a floating dock is a submersible structure that lifts vessels out of the water for hull repairs.
