drydocking

Vessel out-of-water servicing

Drydocking is the process of bringing a ship into a dry dock—a basin that can be drained of water—for inspection, maintenance, or repair of the hull and other parts normally submerged.

The term extends to any scheduled period when a vessel is taken out of service for such work.

In slang, drydocking describes a situation where someone's sexual activity is curtailed, typically because a partner is unavailable or the relationship has ended.
