seaways

Ships' travel paths

Seaways are navigable routes across the ocean, or channels wide enough for ships to pass.

The term often names specific waterways developed for maritime traffic: the St. Lawrence Seaway.

It can also refer to the open sea as a medium of travel, or to the motion of waves against a vessel: The ship made good progress in moderate seaways.
