navy yards
Military ship facilities
Navy yards are government-owned shipyards where naval vessels are built, repaired, and maintained.
The term is primarily American; British English uses "naval dockyard." Major navy yards historically anchored regional economies and employed thousands: The Brooklyn Navy Yard built battleships during both world wars.
Some have been decommissioned and converted to civilian use.
