diplodocus

Jurassic whip-tailed herbivore

Diplodocus is a genus of enormous plant-eating dinosaurs that lived during the late Jurassic period, roughly 150 million years ago.

Distinguished by its extraordinarily long neck and whip-like tail, it is among the longest land animals ever discovered, with some specimens exceeding 80 feet in length.

The name, meaning "double beam," refers to distinctive chevron-shaped bones on the underside of its tail.

Diplodocus remains a staple of natural history museums and dinosaur books.
