Turkish spit roast
Döner kebab is a Turkish dish of seasoned meat—typically lamb, beef, or chicken—stacked in a cone shape and roasted on a vertical rotisserie.
As the outer layer cooks, it's shaved off and served in flatbread or pita with vegetables and sauce.
The rotating spit gives the dish its name: döner means "turning" in Turkish.
The dish spread through Europe via Turkish immigrants and inspired Greek gyros and Middle Eastern shawarma.
I grabbed a döner kebab from the shop on the corner.
