raki
Anise-flavored spirit
Raki is an anise-flavored spirit popular in Turkey and the Balkans, typically distilled from grapes and flavored with aniseed.
It turns milky white when mixed with water, earning the nickname "lion's milk." Usually drunk with meze (small dishes) and considered Turkey's national drink: We ordered raki with our dinner.
