Cross-references are notations directing readers to related information elsewhere in the same work.

In dictionaries, a cross-reference might send you from "colour" to "color" or from an abbreviation to its full form.

In legal documents, academic papers, and reference books, cross-references link connected sections: The contract cross-references the payment terms in Appendix B.

The verb is cross-reference: Make sure to cross-reference your sources.
