scripture reading
Reading holy text
Scripture reading is the practice of reading aloud from sacred religious texts, typically the Bible, Torah, or Quran, during worship services or private devotion.
In religious services, scripture readings follow prescribed selections called lectionaries: The scripture reading this Sunday is from the Gospel of Mark.
The term also refers to the passage itself: She prepared a scripture reading for the memorial service.
