coronary thrombosis

Cardiac blood clot

Coronary thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot in one of the coronary arteries—the vessels that supply blood to the heart muscle.

The clot blocks blood flow, causing a heart attack.

The term is often used interchangeably with heart attack in everyday speech, though technically it names the cause rather than the event itself.
