fibrin

Wound-sealing protein

Fibrin is a protein that forms the structural basis of blood clots.

When tissue is damaged, a cascade of chemical reactions converts the soluble protein fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin, which creates a mesh of fibers that traps blood cells and platelets to seal wounds.

The surgeon noted fibrin deposits around the injury site.
